2. Recreation Coordinator

SteppingStones recreation coordinator is Kim Walls.

Kim grew up in Elkins, WV and graduated from Davis & Elkins College with a B.A. in Psychology and Human Services and a B.S. in Exercise Sciences. Her choice of college studies and her exciting recreational background make her an asset for SteppingStones. She played basketball during her college days and in 2002 was on the NCAA Division II record list for the most 3 pointers made in a game. That’s quite an accomplishment. Kim loves to travel, enjoys any kind of sports activity and her photo albums would show us a love of adventure. She has traveled the islands of Hawaii, worked in a Casino at Lake Tahoe, snorkeled in the Caribbean, hiked and climbed rocks at Yosemite National Park and the Costa Rican Rain Forest. Kim has even seen an active volcano and watched as lava flowed down its sides, flown an airplane, been white water rafting and bungee jumping and my personal favorite, went to Times Square for New Year’s Eve.

When you spend some time with Kim at SteppingStones, you can see that she brings along that love of adventure and love of life to share with her athletes. Her employment resume also includes, tutor/mentor, case manager, counselor, mental health specialist, exercise physiologist assistant, teen counseling assistant and crisis phone attendant. Her versatile past makes her a good recreation coordinator because she truly enjoys being active and involved and working with people. Kim works hard to find ways to give her athletes an opportunity to live a better, happier, enjoyable life. When you ask Kim to explain the favorite part of her job, she says SteppingStones is like a big family of athletes, family members and volunteers. She feels very fortunate to be a part of that family. Kim says her athletes have a much better outlook on life that anyone she has ever seen and feels SteppingStones is infectious. Once you become involved, you are hooked for life. I second that Emotion.

Kim has been married to Ben for 5 years, worked at SteppingStones for the past 3 ½, and is a coach for Special Olympics.
When asked where she sees herself in 10 years, Kim said she would like to continue working at SteppingStones and raise her family in Morgantown.

That’s good new for those of us who have family members involved with SteppingStones.
